The GEPRC Tern-LR40 is a lightweight 4-inch quadcopter featuring the DJI O3 Air Unit and a high-efficiency 4S power system. Its "Deadcat" frame layout ensures that the propellers are completely out of your 4K camera view, while the top-mounted GEP-M10 Nano GPS is isolated from electronic noise for faster satellite locks. At only 180g (dry), it can stay in the air for up to 25 minutes on a Li-ion pack, making it a legal and silent long-range explorer.

Product Description

The GEPRC Tern-LR40 HD O3 is a 4-inch "Deadcat" style long-range drone designed for the sub-249g category. It strikes a unique balance between the portability of a micro and the endurance of a larger cruiser, making it an excellent "artistic" tool for scenic mountain surfing or quiet suburban exploration.

  • Interference-Free GPS: Most small quads bury the GPS in the tail. The Tern-LR40 uses an elevated, top-mounted pedestal for the GEP-M10 Nano. This places the sensor away from the "noise" of the VTX and ESC, resulting in a more reliable Return-to-Home (RTH) function.

  • Deadcat Frame Geometry: The front arms are swept wider and back, moving the propellers out of the camera's field of view. This is essential for the wide 155° lens of the DJI O3, ensuring your cinematic 4K footage is clean and unobstructed.

  • Aviation-Grade Construction: The frame combines 3.5mm carbon fiber arms with 7075 aluminum camera side plates. This provides a rigid, vibration-damped cage for the O3 camera, reducing high-frequency "jello" in your video.

  • Next-Gen G4 Processing: Powered by the TAKER G4 45A AIO, it uses an STM32G4 MCU which offers higher computing redundancy than standard F4 or F7 chips, allowing for ultra-smooth flight even with complex GPS-assisted modes.

  • Long Endurance Tuning: The SPEEDX2 1404 3000KV motors are specifically tuned for 4S efficiency. When paired with a 18650 Li-ion pack, the drone "sips" power, allowing you to cover significant distance on a single charge.

Technical Specifications:

  • Wheelbase: 180mm

  • Weight: ~180g (without battery)

  • FC & ESC: TAKER G4 45A AIO

  • Motors: GEP-SPEEDX2 1404 3000KV

  • Propellers: HQProp T4x2.5

  • Video System: DJI O3 Air Unit

  • GPS: GEP-M10 Nano

  • Connector: XT30

  • Flight Time: ~10–12 mins (850mAh LiPo) | ~25 mins (3000mAh Li-ion)

Pilot's Reality Check:

  • Sub-249g Compliance: To stay under the 249g legal limit (avoiding registration in many regions), you must use a battery around 650mAh–850mAh. Moving to a 3000mAh Li-ion pack for max endurance will push you over 250g.

  • Wind Resistance: Because it is so light (the "floaty" feel), it is more susceptible to buffeting in high-altitude mountain winds compared to the heavier MOZ7 or Helion 10.

  • XT30 Limitation: The XT30 plug is standard for this class, but ensure your batteries have the matching connector. Many larger 4S Li-ion packs come with XT60 by default and will require an adapter or re-soldering.

Flyer's POV: Flying the Tern-LR40 feels like being a "silent observer." It’s much quieter than a 5-inch drone, making it less intrusive when flying over scenic areas. It doesn't have the "snap" of a freestyle quad, but it has incredible "glide." You can set your throttle to 30%, sit back, and enjoy the scenery for 20 minutes straight. The O3 video is the perfect partner for this frame; you get professional-grade stabilized footage without the need for a heavy external GoPro.

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions
  • Why does the GPS look different?

The Tern-LR40 features a unique elevated GPS mount. By moving the GEP-M10 Nano GPS further away from the electronic noise of the VTX and motors, the drone achieves a much faster "satellite lock" and maintains a more stable signal, which is critical for the reliability of the GPS Rescue function during long-distance flights.

  • How long can it actually fly?

The efficiency of the 4-inch props combined with the lightweight frame offers impressive endurance. Using a standard 4S 750mAh LiPo, you can expect about 7 minutes of flight. However, switching to a 4S 3000mAh Li-ion pack allows for long-range cruising sessions of up to 25 minutes.

  • Is it durable enough for crashes?

While designed for lightweight efficiency, the camera is protected by a cage made of aviation-grade 7075 aluminum alloy. The frame arms are 3.5mm thick carbon fiber, providing a good balance between weight savings and the rigidity needed to handle minor tumbles during landing or low-altitude proximity flying.

  • What is the "BB Ring" installation?

GEPRC included a dedicated mounting spot for a BB ring (beeper/buzzer). This is a simple but essential feature for long-range drones, as it provides a loud audible alarm for low battery and helps you locate the drone if it goes down in tall grass or thick brush.

  • Does it support high-quality onboard recording?

Yes. Since it carries the DJI O3 Air Unit, it can record 4K/120fps video directly to its internal storage. To ensure the footage is smooth, GEPRC added a silicone shock-absorption mat to the camera mount to prevent high-frequency motor vibrations (jello) from reaching the sensor.
