The Rekon 4 FR is a specialized 4-inch freestyle drone designed to mimic the flight feel of a full-sized 5-inch quad while staying under the 250g weight limit. Developed by Dave_C FPV, it prioritizes "momentum" and "disc load," allowing you to throw the quad into acrobatic maneuvers with a level of authority that 3-inch micros simply can't match.

Product Description

Rekon 4 FR Sub250g BNF Copters Version 4S Size 4" Style Freestyle

The Rekon 4 FR (Freestyle) is the aggressive sibling to the popular Rekon long-range series. It is built specifically for pilots who want a sub-250g rig that doesn't feel "floaty" or underpowered during aggressive freestyle.

  • Classic 5-inch Feel: By utilizing a 4-inch platform, the Rekon 4 FR achieves a lower disc load than a 5-inch sub-250g build. This gives it more "gravity" and momentum in the air, making tricks like snap rolls and power loops feel more natural and less jittery.

  • Robust Frame Design: The frame features 4mm thick quick-swap arms and a braced body that can withstand the high-impact crashes typical of freestyle flying. It is designed to be practical for daily "bashing" while keeping the components well-protected.

  • Sub-250g Headroom: Unlike many drones that barely scrape under the 250g mark, the Rekon 4 FR (especially the analog version) has enough weight margin to carry a "Naked" GoPro or Insta360 GO 2 without requiring a commercial drone license in most regions.

  • Optimized Power System: The 1804 3500KV motors were chosen after extensive testing to find the "Goldilocks" zone—enough torque to handle 4-inch props with high-end responsiveness without the excessive weight of larger motors.

Technical Specifications:

  • Weight: ~143g (Analog) / ~161g (Digital) without battery

  • FC & ESC: Zeus25 V2 AIO 3-6S (F722 FC / 25A BL_S ESC)

  • Motors: Rekon 1804 3500KV

  • Propellers: Gemfan 4023 3-blade

  • VTX: Zeus Nano 350mW (Analog) / Caddx Vista or Link (Digital)

  • Camera: Caddx Ratel 2 (Analog) / Polar Nano or Phoenix (Digital)

  • Receiver: PNP / ELRS 2.4G / TBS Crossfire

  • Recommended Battery: 4S 550mAh - 1000mAh (XT30)

  • Flight Time: ~4-6 minutes (Aggressive) / ~8 minutes (Cruising)

The Pilot's Reality Check:

  • Motor Durability: While the 1804 motors are powerful and light, they use thinner shafts to save weight. They are more prone to bending in high-velocity "concrete" crashes compared to standard heavyweight freestyle motors.

  • Vibrations & Tuning: Out of the box, it flies exceptionally well, but because the frame is light and the motors are high-KV, loose screws (especially on the arms) can lead to mid-throttle oscillations. It is highly recommended to use blue Loctite on all frame screws before your first session.

  • Digital Weight: Note that the Digital (Vista/Link) version is significantly heavier. If you plan to carry an HD camera and stay strictly under 249g, you'll need to use a smaller 4S 550mAh pack or stick to the Analog version.

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions
  • What does the "FR" stand for compared to the "LR" version?

"FR" stands for Freestyle. While the Rekon 4 LR (Long Range) is designed for efficiency and long flight times with smaller motors, the FR version uses beefier 1804 motors and a more robust frame. It’s built to handle the high-stress "flings" and snaps of freestyle tricks rather than just cruising mountains.

  • Is it actually sub-250g with a battery and camera?

Yes, but you have to be careful with your choices. The Analog version is lighter (approx. 143g dry), leaving plenty of room for an 850mAh 4S battery and a "Naked" GoPro. The Digital HD version is heavier (approx. 161g dry) due to the video transmitter; it will stay under 250g with a battery, but adding a camera might push you slightly over the limit.

  • Why use 4-inch props instead of the standard 5-inch?

A 4-inch platform is the "sweet spot" for sub-250g freestyle. It has more momentum and "throw" than a 3-inch drone, making it feel less floaty and more like a "classic" 5-inch quad. Additionally, 4-inch T-mount props are now widely available, giving you more tuning options than the rarer 3.5-inch size.

  • What kind of battery should I use for the best performance?

For freestyle, the recommended battery is a 4S 650mAh to 850mAh LiPo with an XT30 connector. This provides the best power-to-weight ratio for a 4-6 minute session of aggressive flying. If you just want to cruise, you can go up to a 1000mAh pack, but the drone will feel noticeably more sluggish in sharp turns.

  • How durable are the "Quick-Swap" arms?

The frame features 4mm thick carbon fiber arms that are surprisingly tough for a micro. The "quick-swap" design means that if you do manage to snap one during a hard concrete landing, you only need to remove a couple of screws to slide in a new arm without taking apart your entire flight stack or desoldering motors.
