Product Description

The TBS Source One HD V5 is the latest iteration of the industry's most famous "open-source" FPV frame. It is designed to be the ultimate budget-friendly, high-durability freestyle platform. Because the design is open-source, it is affordable, parts are always available, and it has a massive community of pilots sharing 3D-printable modifications.

  • Open-Source Legacy: Team BlackSheep (TBS) released the Source One as an open-source project. This means any manufacturer can produce it, keeping the price very low while maintaining a high standard of carbon fiber quality.

  • Modernized for HD: The V5 (Version 5) has been specifically adjusted to accommodate the larger dimensions of modern digital transmitters like the DJI O3 Air Unit and the Walksnail Avatar. It provides ample room in the "bus" for your stack and VTX.

  • Extreme Durability: Featuring 6mm thick arms and a wide-X configuration, the Source One is famous for being "indestructible." It is a heavy frame compared to racing rigs, but that extra mass translates to a smoother freestyle flight and the ability to shrug off impacts with concrete.

  • Easy Maintenance: Like its predecessors, the V5 uses a simple bolt-through design. You can swap an arm quickly with basic tools, making it one of the most practical frames for pilots who are pushing their limits and crashing frequently.

Technical Specifications:

  • Wheelbase: 226mm

  • Arm Thickness: 6mm

  • Top/Bottom/Middle Plate: 2mm

  • Standoff Height: 30mm (Plenty of stack room)

  • Stack Mounting: 30.5x30.5mm & 20x20mm

  • Camera Mount: 19mm / 20mm (Digital HD compatible)

  • Weight: ~123g (Carbon only)

  • Carbon Fiber: High-quality 3K matte finish

The Pilot's Reality Check:

  • The "Workhorse" Frame: This isn't the lightest or most "boutique" frame, but it is the one you take to an abandoned building (a "bando") because you know you can beat it up and parts are cheap to replace.

  • 3D Printing Heaven: Because it’s open-source, sites like Thingiverse are flooded with free files for GoPro mounts, arm protectors, and antenna holders specifically for this frame.

🤔 FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
  • Is it a "True X" or a "Wide X"?

The Source One V5 uses a Wide-X stance. This configuration is popular for freestyle because it provides a very predictable and stable flight feel. Because the arms are spread wide, it also helps in keeping the props out of the view of HD cameras at lower tilt angles.

  • How do I fit a DJI O3 Air Unit?

The standard V5 frame is designed for "classic" FPV components. To fit the DJI O3 Air Unit camera (which is 20mm wide), you typically need to remove the carbon camera plates and use 3D-printed TPU mounts. Many community designs exist on Thingiverse or Printables to adapt this frame specifically for the O3's larger camera and antenna.

  • What is the "Arm Locking Wedge"?

One of the best "asjalik" improvements in the V5 is the inclusion of a central arms spacer (wedge). This piece locks all four arms together in the center, which drastically reduces frame resonance and prevents the arms from shifting or "creeping" during high-force crashes.

  • Why are the standoffs different heights?

The V5 frame typically uses a slanted top plate design. It comes with 30mm standoffs for the front and 22mm standoffs for the rear. This creates a lower profile at the back to protect the VTX, while leaving enough vertical room at the front for your FPV camera and stack.

  • Is it good for beginners?

It is arguably the best frame for beginners. Because it is open-source, the carbon is cheap to replace. If you break an arm, you can find replacements at almost any FPV shop worldwide for a few dollars. It is a "no-nonsense" frame that lets you focus on learning to fly rather than worrying about repair costs.
