The DJI O4 Air Unit Pro is the pinnacle of digital FPV technology, bringing the industry-leading imaging of the Avata 2 to the custom drone world. Featuring a massive 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K/120fps recording, and the ultra-stable O4 transmission system, it eliminates the need for a separate action camera while providing the most immersive live feed ever seen in FPV.

Product Description

This is the individual component that many pilots will be buying to upgrade their custom builds. It's important to distinguish between the Pro and the Standard/Lite versions, as the Pro is the one with the 1/1.3-inch sensor.

  • Next-Level Imaging: The "Pro" designation comes from the 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, which offers significantly better dynamic range and low-light performance than the O3 or standard O4 units. It supports 10-bit D-Log M, giving professional editors the color-grading flexibility previously reserved for high-end cinema drones.

  • 4K/120fps Onboard Recording: Capture high-speed action in crystal-clear 4K at 120 frames per second. This allows for stunning 4x slow-motion playback that remains sharp and fluid, perfect for cinematic proximity flying.

  • The O4 Transmission Advantage: Experience a rock-solid 1080p/100fps live feed with latency as low as 15ms (in Racing Mode). With an FCC range of up to 15km, the O4 system provides superior signal penetration through obstacles compared to previous generations.

  • Dual-Antenna 2T2R System: The Pro unit utilizes a dual-antenna setup for both transmitting and receiving. This diversity significantly reduces "stutter" and signal dropouts when the drone is at extreme tilt angles or behind dense foliage.

  • RockSteady 3.0+ & Gyroflow: Get buttery-smooth footage straight out of the unit. You can use the built-in RockSteady 3.0+ for instant stabilization or record "clean" data for professional post-stabilization via Gyroflow.

Technical Specifications:

  • Sensor: 1/1.3-inch CMOS (4:3 aspect ratio)

  • Max Transmission Range: 15 km (FCC) / 8 km (CE/SRRC)

  • Min. Latency: 15 ms (with Goggles 3 in Racing Mode)

  • Max Bitrate: 130 Mbps (DVR) / 60 Mbps (Transmission)

  • Internal Storage: 4 GB (plus microSD slot up to 512GB)

  • Input Voltage: 7.4V - 26.4V (2S-6S LiPo compatible)

  • Dimensions: VTX: 33.5 x 33.5 x 13mm | Camera: 25.6 x 20 x 23.3mm

  • Weight: ~32g (including camera module and dual antennas)

  • Mounting Pattern: 20x20mm / 25.5x25.5mm (M2)

The Pilot's Reality Check:

  • Goggles Compatibility: The O4 Air Unit series is natively compatible with DJI Goggles 3 and Goggles N3. While it can work with Goggles 2/Integra, you may experience slightly higher latency (up to 30ms) compared to the newer O4-native headsets.

  • Size Matters: The Pro camera is larger than the O3 camera. Before buying, ensure your frame's camera TPU mounts are compatible with the 20mm width of the O4 Pro camera module.

  • Cooling is Key: Like all high-performance digital VTXs, the O4 Pro generates significant heat on the bench. We recommend enabling "Low Power Mode" until you are ready to take off.

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions
  • How does the camera compare to the O3?

The upgrade here is the 1/1.3-inch sensor (up from 1/1.7 on the O3). This is the same sensor size found in the Avata 2 and Osmo Action 4/5. It offers much better dynamic range and low-light performance. It also introduces 10-bit D-Log M color, making it much easier to color grade your footage to match professional workflows.

  • What is the new "Racing Mode"?

DJI finally addressed the latency gap. In the new Racing Mode, latency drops to a lightning-fast 15ms (at 1080p/100fps). It also supports a new frequency selection system that allows up to 8 pilots to fly together with minimal interference, a significant improvement for organized racing events

  • Does it still use only one antenna?

No. DJI returned to the dual-antenna (2T2R) setup for the Pro version. This provides a more robust signal "blanket" and extends the maximum range to 15km (FCC). The dual antennas help significantly when the drone is at high tilt angles or behind obstacles, where the single-antenna O3 occasionally struggled.

  • Can I use my old Goggles V2?

Unfortunately, no. The O4 Air Unit series is not compatible with the Goggles V1 or V2. It requires the newer DJI Goggles 3, Goggles N3, Goggles 2, or Goggles Integra. This is the biggest "catch" for pilots looking to upgrade from older systems.

  • Is it heavier than the O3?

Actually, it’s slightly lighter.11 Despite the larger sensor and dual antennas, the full kit weighs approx. 32g (compared to the O3's 39g).12 The mounting pattern remains the same (13$20 \times 20$ mm and 14$25.5 \times 25.5$ mm), making it a direct swap for most modern frames.15
